What we collect

haggle runs its own analytics. Nothing goes to other companies, and we never store your IP address.

haggle is a Hack Club program, so everything here is covered by Hack Club's Privacy Notice & Terms.

When you sign up

  • The email you type.
  • From Hack Club sign-in: your name, email, Hack Club ID, Slack ID and verification status.
  • After you sign in, your visits on that browser are linked to your account, so we can see how visitors go on to build and ship.

Used to DM you at launch, add you to the Slack channels, and count sign-ups.

Where you came from

  • The page you landed on and the site that sent you.
  • Campaign tags and ?ref= links.
  • Timezone, UTC offset, languages, and your country, worked out from your timezone (never your IP).

Used to see which posts bring people and when people are around.

Your device

  • Device type, browser and operating system, with their versions, and phone model.
  • Screen and window size, orientation, dark mode, reduced-motion setting, touch or mouse, whether the site is installed as an app.
  • CPU cores, memory, network type, bandwidth and data saver.

Used to know what computers our community has, so the weekly challenges run on them.

How you use the site

  • Page views and how they were opened (link, reload, back), clicks, scrolling, and time on each page and section.
  • Hovers on prize cards, and copying text (only how many characters).
  • The steps of the sign-up box, never what you type before you press RSVP.
  • Page speed and errors.

Used for analytics: what works on the site and what confuses people.

What we never collect

  • IP addresses (rate limits only hold them in memory).
  • The email text before it's sent.
  • Keystrokes, mouse trails or recordings.
  • Third-party trackers.

Cookies and who sees it

  • Two cookies of our own: a random visitor ID and a session ID, plus the cookies that keep you signed in.
  • No advertising or third-party cookies.
  • Only the haggle organisers on our admin list can see this data, after signing in with Hack Club.
